  • Dementia [PSW/Family Caregivers]

    This course describes the presentation and progression of dementia. It explores risk factors, early warning signs, symptoms and care strategies. Woven through the course is a review of the associated impact of caregiving and how you as a professional can identify stress and provide caregiver support. The entire course is anchored in a person-centered approach to care which includes the individual and their care partner and focuses first and foremost on people as individuals.

    Throughout the course you are asked to apply your learning to an ongoing case study.

      This simple quiz provides a means of measuring your understanding of the topic before you start this course. When compared with the post-assessment quiz, the data we collect helps us measure the effectiveness of our course design and content as well as providing helpful feedback for the learner.

      In some cases these pre and post course assessments will be required by your employer as part of a quality improvement initiative and/or as indicators of understanding of site-based required educational activities.

It reviews the progression of the disease and the symptoms associated with each stage of the illness. The lesson concludes by examining the physical, psychological, financial and social impact of caregiving. You are asked to apply your learning to a clinical case, which will be developed throughout the course.

      TMRI of brainhere is no singular cause of dementia; however, this lesson explores the varied factors which put someone at higher risk for the disease. It reviews the different types of dementia, as well as the differences between dementia and other similar diseases. Finally, the lesson presents you with common causes of caregiver stress.

It describes the process to assess for dementia and concludes by asking you to consider signs of caregiver stress.
