    Welcome to the Falls for Older Adults online educational course, designed for health care providers’ continuing education and professional development. The course aims to improve your knowledge about falls prevention, screening for risk, assessment and interventions for fall prevention. 

    PLEASE NOTE: These courses are open to the public with no registration required.  However, if you wish to access a Course Completion Certificate for a course, you must be enrolled as a student.  To do so please contact info@sageducation.ca.

  • PSW/Family Caregivers - Falls > Pre-Assessment

    This simple quiz provides a means of measuring your understanding of the topic before you start this course. When compared with the post-assessment quiz, the data we collect helps us measure the effectiveness of our course design and content as well as providing helpful feedback for the learner.

    In some cases these pre and post course assessments will be required by your employer as part of a quality improvement initiative and/or as indicators of understanding of site-based required educational activities.

  • PSW/Family Caregivers - Falls > Lesson 1: Introduction

    Lesson 1 covers the basics to inderstanding falls, the definition of a fall, how to identify adults at risk for a fall, the impact of falls on the individual and the health care system as well as understanding the value of falls prevention strategies.

  • PSW/Family Caregivers - Falls > Lesson 2: Risk Factors for Falls

    Lesson 2 provides information on identifying older adults at risk of falling, the common types and location of falls associated injuries, how to recognize and avoid risk factors that contribute to falls and the importance of implementation of falls prevention strategies in older adults.
  • PSW/Family Caregivers - Falls > Lesson 3: Observe & Report Falls Risk

    Lesson 3 provides information about screening for falls risk, explaining the components of the Multifactorial Fall Risk Assessment and outline fall prevention strategies including the Multifactorial Risk Assessment & Intervention Strategies.

  • PSW/Family Caregivers - Falls > Lesson 4: Multifactorial Interventions

    In Lesson 4 you will learn to recognize the importance of Individualized and Multifactorial Intervention Strategies for effective fall prevention.

  • PSW/Family Caregivers - Falls > Post Assessment & Course Feedback
