Minimizing Use of Restraints [PSW/Family Caregivers]
The course on “Minimizing the use of Restraints” will introduce you to the review relevant legislation and key aspects of a typical agency ‘restraint’ policy. You will find information on the common risk factors associated with restraint use and some approaches to prevention and preventative measures that can be used.
There are necessary requirements that must be met before a restraint can be used, whether the restraint is physical, chemical or environmental that is detailed within the lessons. Safe use, how to explain restraints to families, requirements for obtaining consent and lastly how you should document decisions and interventions. You will explore approaches to prevention and put your ideas into action using a case study and a variety of reflections.
